Robert Young Estate Winery Bunches of Grapes at Harvest
Back in the 1860s, a big red barn which housed a winery stood beside the little dirt lane leading north to Peter Young’s ranch. The road to the Young property was named for it. One hundred years later in 1963, Peter’s grandson, Robert Young, planted the first Cabernet Sauvignon in the Alexander Valley.

2004 RED WINERY ROAD
Estate Bordeaux Blend

This wine pays tribute to the Young’s contribution to the local history by naming a Robert Young Estate wine after Red Winery Road that bisects our vineyards.

In 2004, the opportunity to produce a Red Winery Road wine presented itself. The crop that year was very small giving extra concentration of fruit flavors in all Robert Young Vineyards grapes. These conditions meant that just a little bit of our small plantings of Bordeaux grape varietals, like Petit Verdot and Malbec, would make a more interesting and noticeable contribution to a wine blend of our larger vineyard sections of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The result of the blend was a distinctive wine with a wide variety of complimentary and rich flavors. The 2004 Red Winery Road blend contains all the special sections of Bordelaise the grapes in our vineyards and was made especially for our Scion Wine Club.

The result of this blend is a distinctive wine with a wide variety of rich and complementary flavors. Only 340 cases of this new wine were made.
